Review – Jackery Mini 3350mAh Portable Charger

Jackery claim that this is, and I quote: “The world’s smallest external battery charger and power bank”. While I’m not sure how accurate this claim is, I can say that it is tiny. 3350mAh seems to be about the limit in terms of battery capacity for devices of this size. So what does it come down to in a world where no-one can currently make anything smaller with more power? My answer would be reliability, price, charge speed and durability.

This is where the Jackery falls behind the competition a little. Although the Jackery 3350mAh Portable Charger is packing a Grade A Panasonic Li-ion cell, reliability of the unit has not been great. Quite a few cases of overheating, only charging once then dying and various other charge issues have been present in the community.

The Jackery Mini 3350mAh Portable Charger has 1 USB port (understandably) at charges at a speed of 1A. You’ll also expect to see about 500 cycles on a battery like this which is great. What’s even better is that when the Jackery Mini 3350mAh Portable Charger does what it’s supposed to, it does it fantastically.

Testing shows that every bit of that 3350mAh capacity battery is doing its job and you can rest easy knowing that Jackery are being honest with their offering.

Look and feel

It’s no secret that we here at Power Bank Expert are huge fans of Jackery’s branding and design. The idea to make the Jackery Mini 3350mAh Portable Charger a long, rounded cube shape rather than cylindrical was a masterstroke. All these other lipstick sized chargers (including our favorite, the Anker Micro) missed the trick on this one. Why is it so smart? Well, the shape prevents it from rolling off the table. Clever!

The rounded edges are pleasing to the eye and the aluminium shell appears sturdy*. There are 4 LED battery indicators and much like similar sized power banks, both USBs sit on the end. It’s important to note that to prevent the Jackery from turning on in your pocket or bag, the power button will need to be activated to charge connected devices. Another smart design choice in our opinion.

Durability & Construction

*This is what that asterisk is for! The Jackery appears sturdy but we’ve noticed a few issues on some units. Firstly, their appears to be a common design issue with the USB ports. A piece of plastic protrudes and obstructs the USB port in some cases, preventing you from using it at all. We also reckon the Jackery 3350mAh Portable Charger won’t stand up to the old “drop test”. Thank god it’s not a cylindrical shape!

It’s not all bad news though. Plenty of customers have been rocking this guy for over 12 months. Although some battery loss has been reported (completely normal), newer models seem to be holding up really well.

Portability

Jackery have obviously excelled in this respect. This power bank will fit just aboutanywhere. 3.7 x 0.9 x 0.8 inches makes this one of the most portable external batteries in the market. Until we see something up around 4-5000mAh at this size, Jackery will continue to own this space with their peers.
